Position summary

Reporting to the Head of Business Intelligence in Asia Pacific, the Senior BI Solutions Manager will be a part of the Global Business Intelligence & Analytics team situated in APAC. He / She will lead and manage external vendor and internal resources to the end to end project delivery lifecycle for various BI&A initiatives globally / within the Region that stretches across multiple functional areas. Key responsibilities include requirements gathering, providing input to solution strategy and road mapping, solution selection, vendor selection, implementation, maintenance and support.

The incumbent is expected to:

  • Work closely with the BI technical/development team & to understand and provide business intelligence solutions to business partners.

  • Provide input to and share architectural vision and design that underlies BI solutions development and continuous improvements. He/she is responsible to “harmonize, rationalize, and standardize” BI solutions / application portfolio for a relevant business process.

  • Interact with external vendors and build working partnerships so that we secure goods / services at agreed costs and timelines.

  • Works closely with the Global BI&A architect to ensure appropriate BI standards, guidelines and architecture are met.

Job responsibilities

Decision Making

  • Design process flows of solution features, ensure design includes effective information / data architecture, user interface, and user experience.

  • Define and scope necessary projects and initiatives.

  • Drive solution selection process, including the drafting, issuing, RFI / RFP and reviewing vendor responses.

  • Assist in providing input to overall BI solution strategy and roadmap for BI, with clear alignment to the business objectives and needs.

Problem Solving

  • Gather high level requirements and effectively translate business needs into relevant and scalable technology solutions.

  • Develop business cases, formulate plans, estimate resources and identify timing for execution.

  • Create BI application designs and ensures solution architecture is effective, stable and scalable.

Independence of Action and Accountability

  • Works closely with Domain and Business Analysts at the scope and requirements definition phase of a project to ensure BI solutions are effectively and efficiently designed; educate Domain Lead and Business Analyst regarding the effective use of BI solutions and to help drive adoption.

  • Understand the linkages between current objectives and deliverables and the overall strategic objectives

  • Solid capability to work with different levels of stakeholders and multiple vendors independently

  • Providing input in defining BI strategy and to lead the execution of BI strategy, developing systems requirements, designing and prototyping, testing, training, defining support procedures and implementing practical BI solutions.

  • Managing stabilization of BI solutions / applications and ensuring overall performance effectiveness.

  • Organized, self-motivated, enthusiastic and proven rapid learning capability.

Leadership

  • Provide input in translating the Global / APAC BI strategy into the technical strategies and solutions.

  • Work with domain lead and business analyst to perform data modeling, configuration, parameterization, use-case analysis, mock-ups, and prototyping based on requirements analysis.

  • Ensure solution design meets compliance standards for ELC corporate policies, PCI, and other security and GIS Risk Management & Compliance guidelines.

  • Leverage corporate BI solutions and architecture wherever feasible.

  • Understands customer and market trends; and provides information and advice on relevant emerging technology tools and platforms that may result in improvements to current processes.

  • Ability to challenge status quo and drive new ideas.

Qualifications

  • University Degree with major in Business, Information Systems or Equivalent Discipline

  • With at least 12 years’ experience; including experience in implementing BI applications for the areas of Retail and Consumer Engagement is preferred.

  • Previous experience in implementing BI applications for the areas of Retail and Consumer Engagement is preferred.

  • Working experience in Business Warehouse systems architecture and solution design (Data modelling, ETL design).

  • Project implementation and production support experience in SAP suite of Business Intelligence products is required (SAP BW on HANA, BOBJ, BEx, and Analysis for Office).

  • Good experience and knowledge in SAP Webi, Lumira 2.0 i.e. Design Studio and Lumira

  • Exposure in other of Business Intelligence products / Data visualization tools is advantageous (e.g. Cognos, Microsoft BI Suite, Tableau, QlikView / QlikSense).

  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience with big data concepts and solutions such as Hadoop, IBM Big Insights, public clouds, etc is advantageous.

  • Knowledge in the areas of Social Analytics and Predictive Analytics is advantageous.

  • Skills in leading teams in developing detailed technical documentation, studies and specifications.

  • Basic knowledge of SOA, middleware technologies, and enabling products.

  • Basic knowledge of ITIL best practices within the Systems Development Lifecycle, Release Management, Problem Management and other key processes.

  • Experience and knowledge in project management methodologies. Agile methodology would be desired.

  • Knowledge in change management techniques and methodologies would be advantageous

  • Experience in managing / participation in global implementation projects.

  • Proactive leadership to build strong rapport and relationship with cross-functional users within a matrix organization

  • Experience working at a Regional level (with multiple countries).

  • Solid capability to work with different levels of stakeholders and multiple vendors independently.

  • Customer-oriented; able to work independently and lead multiple small to medium size initiatives or projects.

  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines; ability to make decisions with limited information.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to lead projects with multiple external offshore development teams.

  • Fluency in spoken and written English; Cantonese or Mandarin is a bonus.
