Packaging in prestige beauty is paramount to the consumer’s total experience. The Estée Lauder Companies maintains a top quality package development operation that launches thousands of packages a year for its skin care, makeup, fragrance, and hair care products. We excel at managing complexity which gives us a competitive advantage when it comes to packaging innovation. This is an exciting position providing packaging support to the Canadian Innovation Center (CIC) to identify and bring new technologies and packaging and product innovations to the Estee Lauder Companies.


  • Collaborate with R&D Product Development and R&D Corporate Innovation teams to provide packaging insight, direction and samples to support new corporate formulations.

  • Investigate industry trends in products, packaging and consumer usage/behavior across varying age groups and demographics.

  • Drive innovation by curating Packaging Innovation Seminars quarterly with responsibilities of working with industry vendors to present packaging innovations consistent with the latest technologies/trends for the CIC groups.

  • Meet with industry suppliers to understand the current landscape in packaging, delivery technologies and materials in an effort to create new packaging concepts.

  • Direct suppliers and technology companies, inside and outside the industry, on ideas and concepts.

  • Help identify trends that directly or indirectly impact beauty and personal care.

  • Monitor and attend trade show exhibitions inside and outside the beauty and personal care industries.

  • Search publications and digital media for packaging trends, design excellence and technology breakthroughs.

  • Investigate specific packaging and design trends at the direction of the Packaging VP, R&D VP and Corporate Innovation R&D VP.



  • Minimum BS degree in Packaging Science or Engineering.

  • Institute of Packaging Professionals (IOPP) Certification.


  • 7 years’ experience in cosmetic package development

  • Concentrated experience in prestige beauty industry with proven development experience in color category

  • Proficiency in computer systems including Unique Package Definition Systems, MS Excel, Word, Outlook and Timeline management systems.

  • Experience within Research & Development environments preferred

Functional Competencies:

  • Technical competency in analysis of geometric objects in 2 and 3 dimensions including understanding of clearances, fit and finish of packaging components and subcomponents.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of materials used in the construction and manufacturing of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging including but not limited to:

o Injection molding.

o Extrusion molding.

o Metal forming.

o Glass forming.

o Vacuum forming.

o Assembly of components.

o Dispensing systems (pump, airless).

o Folding carton and rigid box design

  • Comprehensive knowledge of decorating and materials used on primary, secondary and tertiary packaging.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of test methods used to validate component/package performance.

  • Passion for creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment while exhibiting tact, good judgment, diplomacy and flexibility.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and non-verbal), and interpersonal skills.

  • Customer focused and able to build trust and collaborative relationships at all levels.

  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

  • High learning agility, strong capability for problem-solving, data analytic & decision making and comfortable with ambiguity.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office.

  • Driver’s License required, travel between facilities in GTA required (10% of time)
