As a senior member of the Materials and Technology group in Packaging, collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and external vendors to facilitate design, evaluation, optimization and qualification of materials in category packaging and new technology platforms. Employ subject matter expertise in non-wovens. Introduce innovative non-woven and substrate materials for luxe packaging application. Compare and advise composition of formulation against materials for compatibility. Work in close collaboration with key internal brand and category teams including R&D chemists, product development, package development, package engineering, package testing/analytics and creative. Self-starter that can carry out tasks with minimal oversight.

  • Lead material selection for packaging in the assigned category (such as skin care, make-up, hair-care, fragrance, bath & body, etc) by recommending suitable material based on formula product composition and anticipated interaction. (30%)

  • Drive high level of scientific creativity and problem solving agility by demonstrating understanding of product implications, and guide solutions accordingly (20%)

  • Partner in the development process and qualification of advanced materials, including non-wovens and substrates, with R&D chemists, category packaging and external vendors. Conduct benchmark studies of material candidates, compositions, material structures, and concepts for beauty industry (15%)

  • Carry out proof-of-concept experiments by conducting product-package interaction studies, and sample characterization. Transfer lab scale outcomes to production partners for scale-up (15%)

  • Partner in creating department SOP and team training (10%)

  • Co-develop new materials, non-wovens and other substrates for packaging with suppliers, universities, etc. based on current challenges, consumer insights and brand vision. Thereby, develop intellectual property to protect material science developments and secure a competitive position for the organization (5%)

  • Coach / mentor, and cross-pollinate subject matter expertise in materials and non-wovens across category packaging and R&D. (5%)


Ph.D in Materials / Polmyer Science

Minimum 4 years of experience

15% Travel Time

English- verbal and written; including scientific style of communication and reporting

Concentration (education or experience) in Non-wovens.

  • Demonstrated expertise and extensive hands-on experience in materials characterization

  • Experience with particle encapsulation/coating materials, non-woven science & substrate conversion.

  • Ability to use advanced analytical techniques for material structure and property determination; demonstrated expertise in obtaining and interpreting composition-structure-property relationships.

  • Ability to explain data and results clearly, and communicate effectively

  • Strong aptitude for problem solving
