It started as a NYC salon and evolved into a multi-million dollar brand comprised of 2 salons, a product company that houses a strong in-house creative agency, a direct sales force, and a university for hairdressers and salon owners.

Position Summary: The Executive Director, Retail will lead the development and sales performance in NA Retail Sales Channels (brick & mortar and dotcom), oversee sales strategy, planning, programming, and customer relationships for the retail channel. The ED will craft annual sales plans to align with brand strategy and will make strategic decisions on activities customized to each unique channel / customer with the goal to meet or exceed LY performance and sales plan. Using retailer and sales planning expertise, this role will be heavily focused on front end strategic work and development in product, placement, samples and trade marketing, and collaborating and influencing retailer decisions at the most senior levels. The ED will guide and develop a small retail team and collaborate closely with Global and North America marketing teams, NA Field Sales and Education teams, Finance, and other internal functions.
- Retail Strategy, Programming, & Customer Execution
o Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual sell-through and net shipment targets.
o Create customer strategy for retailer brick and mortar, retailer.com, and mobile and drive end-to-end, coordinated execution across all retailer touch-points (in-store, dotcom and mobile)
o Ensure strategy alignment within the brand and ELC
o Exceptional strategy execution and integrated approach across all key functional areas to ensure goal attainment.
o Leverage deep understanding of retailer dynamics to identify where to play, how to win, white space opportunities and competitive threats.
o Provide recommendations to Global Marketing on product/category, merchandising, and competitive landscape opportunities
o Ensure necessary points of difference strategies are designed and executed across accounts.
o Lead full brand calendar review of brand activities for both new and core activations to ensure activities will support sales goals and are executable across customers.
o Partner with ELC KAMs to ensure ELC portfolio is leveraged with retailer and brand opportunities are maximized.
o Lead seasonal market meetings and innovation meetings in collaboration with marketing and VP Sales.
o Lead commercial negotiations to drive brand vision and meet sales goals.
o Full channel P&L management in collaboration with Finance and Marketing with direct responsibility for Sales.
o Develop and maintain annual budget in collaboration with Marketing and Finance.
o Lead monthly reviews to assess business and identify opportunities and adjust plans as necessary.
o Direct ownership of ULTA, Nordstrom, and bluemercury, Bloomingdales, and Space NK business, strong support of the Sephora relationship with the Director Retail, Sephora, and deep collaboration with digital team for retailer.com plus Net-a-Porter/Mr.Porter, Beautylish, Birchbox.
o Collaborate with Bb.Lead Team to vet, open, and execute new retail business as needed
- Retailer Relationships:
o Negotiate with internal and external partners on brand programs, brand expression, and any other areas related to Bumble and bumble in order to deliver sell-through targets
o Strategic interface, collaboration and strategy execution with Marketing, Field Sales, Education, and Creative including attendance and presentations at key retailer meetings.
o Develop strong, positive relationships with Corporate and Store Teams (including Merchants, Marketing, Education, Key Store Roles)
- Internal Relationships:
Collaborate with VP NA Sales on retail strategy especially on programming to deliver weekly/monthly sell-through plans and also annual retail calendars, forecasts, budgets, and plans.
Partner with ED Field Sales to ensure excellent field execution of strategies and plans including aligned routing guidance and RBC call cycle evaluation of retail store coverage effectiveness.
Collaborate on training of field sales to ensure in-store best practices are executed and to ensure optimal in-store productivity
Participate in Field Sales Gatherings, Regional Events, and DOS meetings as needed
Regular market visits to ensure short and long term excellent execution, grow field capability, and build best in class relationships
o Marketing / Education
Strategic interface with Marketing and Education to ensure plans are commercially viable, deliver forecast, and drive hair category and brand thought leadership for Bb.
Partner with Marketing on customer strategies, programming, and other key business planning meetings to ensure commercial strategies are incorporated into the upfront design process through to in-store and online execution.
Collaborate with Marketing and Education on strategy, annual retail calendars, forecasts, budgets, and plans
Lead and/or collaborate with Marketing and Education to design, align, and execute best in class customer events
o Finance / Planning
Partner with Finance to ensure plans are in place to meet forecast requirements and lead internal teams to evolve plans if gaps are identified which must happen well before initiatives are executed.
Manage open to buy and in store stock levels with Buyer, Merchant, and Internal Retail Planners
Monitor channel and door productivity to look for growth opportunities or prevent lost business
Maintain and control fiscal budget for seminars, T&E, and Bb.Retail Specialist Program.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong Multi-Specialty Prestige Beauty Experience
Exceptional trade marketing / commercial capabilities and fundamental selling skills.
Strong presentation and communication skills as well as ability to work with cross-departmental colleagues
Customer service oriented
Must be detail-oriented, well-organized and flexible and a strategic thinker
Must be comfortable at managing communications across multiple departments and time-zones
Inspiring and engaging facilitator
Extensive travel required
Education and Experience:
10 years experience in retail sales and sales leadership
Extensive business acumen, strategic and analytical thinking, and financial ability (i.e. P&L management)
Field sales and Salon industry experience a plus
