Responsible for architectural design of Estee Lauder International environments at point of sale.
Ensures Brand’s image is maintained at a consistent level of excellence within guidelines set forth by New York in order to achieve a cohesive effect in terms of architecture, detailing and merchandising layouts.
Provides designs, technical drawings and specifications to market and chosen shopfitter for every new installation.
Consults with local Brand Managers to ensure best locations within stores; analyzes traffic flow to guarantee customer interaction; analyzes architectural features that may enhance or distract from location; inspects sites to ensure cohesive design and speeds approval process.
Educates affiliates and distributors to choose locations that best suit Estee Lauder’s needs; helps affiliates understand technical aspects of store design, (ie. reading drawings, explaining architectural terminology), educates and checks for completeness of project request forms and the overall process.
Educates new and existing shopfitters and updates them on new techniques, details and directions for Estee Lauder store design. Responsible as the interpreter of all Estee Lauder designs.
Investigates and interviews new shopfitters for future markets and projects.
Investigates local production of fixtures required for region not available from International Merchandising Development (IMD) or any Estee Lauder approved vendors.
Communicates with regional design groups on store appearance; informs all parties involved of any updates and / or revisions to standard details.
Develop “Punch List” (List of deficiencies) for each installation to ensure the compliance with design set.
Files and keeps clear, understandable records of all stores for future use by Brand Managers, Merchandising and Store Design. Transmits electronic files for central archival purposes in New York. Educates and coordinates the digital image documentation process.
Provides guidance to new or junior visual staff hired by local market to include updating and educating present staff of new directions from New York.
Work closely with Merchandising Director to ensure complete and articulated store presentation.
College / University graduate in Design or Art School education preferred; creative and has had formal training in architecture or interior design.
10 years experience in Design.
Able to design and draw scaled working construction drawing.
Experience on CAD programs preferable Macintosh Vector Works and PhotoShop.
Understands retail store design aspects, ie. lighting, furniture design, detailing fixtures, etc. as well as the importance of maintaining consistency.
Able to manage time to work on projects in an orderly fashion.
Communicates well with others both verbally and through drawing; communicates technical and design issues to average person as well as professional.
Presents in a professional manner; has an understanding of corporate image and conduct.
Has experience in graphics, layouts and interior signage; has an understanding of traffic flow and human scale.
Works well with other designers and merchandisers.
Must be adaptable to new computer technology (ie. e-mail, ISDN line and design programs).
Willing to travel often and sometimes on short notice.
Excellent verbal and written skills in English and a regional language.
