Position Summary:

To design and execute QE projects through the use of statistical tools and other problem solving methodologies. Provide technical support to Quality and other departments. This position will lead improvement initiatives which ensure that processes are capable of meeting the quality standards and expectations of Aveda/Estee Lauder Companies and its customers. This position must have technical credibility within the organization as well as with customers and suppliers. This position requires the QE to work independently with minimal supervision.

Job Description:

Strategic responsibility: Quality Improvement, Root Cause Analysis, Investigations, CAPA - 80 %

  • Develops, implements and trains on processes and tools that support and are in compliance with GMP/GLP requirements

  • Work closely with Director Quality Operations on quality issues originating within the Blaine site

  • Assist with deviations, audits, non-conformance/complaint investigations and CAPA as needed

  • Collaboration with Global Supplier Development team to improve the quality of packaging components

  • Record and analyze data from first production run and line trial runs and communicate formal report/findings

  • Train staff and provide guidance as needed

  • Responsible for project management/oversight of plant quality improvements

  • Implements new system and working practices to improve process and product quality

  • Performs audits and capability studies as necessary

  • Works with the plant, packaging development, technical packaging, and other parties to define critical requirements

Personnel and Interdepartmental Responsibilities - 20 %

  • Exercise good communication skills to exchange complex information; capable of clear written and verbal communications with direct reports, peers, other departments and management

  • Promote employee motivation and engagement

  • Provides technical support and educates employees in QE techniques.

  • Participate in supplier improvement activities.

  • Assist with validation programs - equipment and processes

  • Documentation of processes and procedures and technical reports

  • Conduct analysis of data and recommend appropriate action

  • Works with suppliers, developers, and production agreeing to and communicating standards and range boards

  • Implement systems and working practices to improve processes and product quality


Minimum Education Level: Minimum Bachelor of Science degree Engineering or equivalent experience (10 years in a related field performing the activities)

Minimum Years of Experience : 3 years’ experience in a fast paced consumer goods manufacturing environment

Licenses or Certifications: ASQ or Lean Certification preferred


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science discipline

  • Minimum of three (3) years Quality Engineering experience or related Quality Assurance experience (external) or Quality Assurance experience (internal)

  • Computer literacy with good knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, PowerPoint. Knowledge of SAP and/or analytical instrumentation software such as Empower is a plus.

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Knowledge in quality management systems and process improvement utilizing statistical problem solving techniques. ASQ or Six Sigma certified or eligible

  • Demonstrated technical root cause and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated prioritization, and time management skills

  • Cosmetic and pharmaceutical experience a plus.

  • Strong aptitude for Root Cause Analysis
