About the Job

The Global Product Development Assistant Manager will help develop and drive innovative products that meet overall Smashbox brand strategies. This unique role is responsible for the development within Color and Limited-Life categories. The Assistant Manager will work in a collaborative team environment to develop formulas and technologies to support a highly agile marketing calendar and innovation pipeline. This role will manage positive working relationships with cross-functional team members and interpret the brand’s vision to create highly successful products in the effort to drive and sustain growth. Position reports to Director of Global Product Development.

About Your Responsibilities

  • Initiate, track and execute all stages of product development. Work directly with Estee Lauder Corporate R&D and third party vendors.

  • Work with Marketing, R&D, New Launch Operations, Packaging and Creative to ensure all products are launched on time

  • Work with the Fragrance Lab, Corporate Fragrance and/or directly with Fragrance Houses to initiate and track the development of maskants

  • Work with PD and Marketing to come up with new innovative ideas for Smashbox which involves brainstorming, competitive shopping and research within respective categories

  • Communicate product concepts and shade direction to appropriate laboratory. Review and re-direct submissions until desired attributes and performance is achieved.

  • Evaluate all product submissions and the establishment of standards from lab through first production. Evaluate reformulations and update production standards.

  • Travel to R&D (Melville and Canada) and outside vendors (US and International) on a regular basis for development of new product concepts and calendarized formula development. Provide on-site approvals.

  • Identify benchmarks and/ or develop formula prototypes

  • Create and distribute comprehensive Product Development Briefs

  • Create content and implement product related survey for internal panel testing

  • Work proactively with Packaging Engineer to drive technical packaging needs

  • Responsible for executing all formula approvals for aesthetics and desired attributes on time and within COG’s

  • Provide technical product information to marketing, copy, and creative teams to support collateral and communication

  • Communicate final clinical & sensory claims substantiation to cross functional SBX teams

  • Educate and train employees on new product features and benefits at turnover meeting

  • Attend seminars, key supplier conference, industry events as needed to stay abreast of new trends, textures, and technology

  • Manage and mentor Product Development Interns during PD process

  • Track key trends, the competitive environment and participate in brainstorming meetings for new product concepts

  • Provide key product information to Education, Copy and Marketing including Product Profiles, Product Usage Statements and Product Descriptions for copy

  • Help coordinate samples for meetings, photography, etc. and evaluate/organize 1st Production Finished goods

  • Purchase and evaluate competitive products, prepare written assessments, and participate in presenting data

  • Coordinate distribution of approved standards to Marketing, Packaging, and Creative.

  • Evaluate Competitive NPD and analysis

  • Accurately review primary and secondary artwork for color descriptions, product shot, color on models and product listing

Qualifications

About You

  • 4 years of relevant work experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Meticulous attention to detail

  • Experienced researcher who can find answers and track down information

  • Ability to work independently and follow through

  • Creative and proactive problem solver

  • Solid Excel and PowerPoint Skills
