Born out of Smashbox Studios in Los Angeles—the modern-day image factory where countless iconic celebrity and fashion images have been shot—we are a fast-growing, prestige cosmetics brand with domestic and international presence. Staying true to our L.A. studio roots, we are creative and trendsetting, yet laidback and accessible. We are currently seeking an Executive Director, Global Visual Merchandising to join our exceptional team in Culver City, CA.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This role will support the global brand by overseeing the visual merchandising strategy, operations and logistics of all for points of sale. The ED will work closely with global marketing in the product planning phase to ensure new and core products are optimally merchandised, taking into consideration product fit, productivity, budget, and consumer experience. He/she will work closely with the creative team and regions to oversee the execution of displays and graphics to optimize consistency, brand messaging, storytelling, and locally relevant retail opportunities. The ED will have a solid understand of fixtures, formats and SKU assortments. Will lead the team to deliver the highest level of brand presentation across all points of sale.
Global Visual Merchandising Strategy (40%)
Maintain a solid understanding of current Smashbox open sell merchandising systems based on formats, fixtures, display designs, channels and regions. Work with global and regional design teams and make recommendations to improve on functionality, effectiveness, cost, scalability, and processes for efficient and agile execution.
Develop a knowledge base of product SKU assortments by fixture type across regions. Make recommendations of how to best balance the presentation of new launches versus core SKUs across merchandising fixtures.
Work with global, regional marketing and to review upcoming product pipeline, SKU fit and feasibility by merchandising fixture. Plan out new launches by spatially mapping future seasons and making launch plan recommendations, taking into consideration product size, breadth of shade range, packaging fit, productivity, and budgetary.
Partner with creative during packaging design development to validate fit and presentation are optimized for point of sale.
Create disruptive visual merchandising programs that distort new product launches and core categories, such as primers.
With consumer engagement and omni-channel teams, collaborate on merchandising strategies for all points of sale that optimize consumer journey, leverage brand content, and promote attraction, navigation, and conversion.
Identify strategic opportunities within the various retail environments to optimize brand DNA, product storytelling, local relevancy and consistency in across all formats.
With creative and retail design teams, ensure the visual merchandising strategies are implemented and upheld through 2D and 3D solutions.
Own the deliverables for the visual merchandising elements for global launch 360 planning.
Cascade and share global visual merchandising information quickly to regions to ensure excellent and timely execution.
Work closely with regions to ensure the brand standards are upheld. With team, create guidelines to share best practices.
Develop working knowledge of display trends, technology implementation, and competitive brands at point of sale.
Push for excellence in merchandising solutions and new design innovations to continually elevate brand presentation.
Global Visual Merchandising Operations and Execution (40%)
Partner with regional marketing/sales teams for optimal VM execution, productivity, and granular growth opportunities.
Maintain high level of operational excellence with the fast paced seasonal update process for gondola production with focus on retailer timelines and brand approvals. Manage cross functional teams and clearly communicate timing and deliverables.
Maintain partnerships with retailer VM teams (such as Sephora, ULTA, Macy's) along with fixture and graphic vendors to facilitate projects to ensure there is ample communication for smooth and timely executions.
Understand all aspects of VM logistics to support brand with display design, production, code setup, shipping through Estee Lauder warehouses, budget management, and corporate functions such as regional design teams and indirect procurement.
Review, edit, and approve visual merchandising designs and graphics completed by 2D and 3D creative team.
Make recommendations of annual budget spend by region, understanding budgetary guidelines for regional merchandising. Estimate annual costs based on frequency of updates. Make recommendations for operating and capital budget cost savings.
Uphold best practices of moving projects through creative operations. Prioritize projects and ensure projects move swiftly.
Team Management and Leadership (20%)
Lead, develop and coach team of 2 direct reports and 5 indirect reports. Foster an environment to optimize team dynamics, communication, productivity, and agility.
Cascade information swiftly and ensure team has clarity on individual deliverables, is up to date on current informaton, and aligned in the brand visual merchandising strategies.
Take a broad look at the visual merchandising process and identify organizational efficiencies that will support the team.

Additional Job Specifications:
Strategic, analytical, detail-oriented to process large amounts of information, draw conclusions, and synthesize into creative action. Must be able to handle a multitude of short and long term projects in a fast-paced environment. Must have experience with fixture systems (open sell merchandising a plus) and graphics within a variety of retail environments from gondola to freestanding stores, from a design and budgetary perspective. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong ability to build collaborative relationships within cross functional global and international teams. Must be strategic, operationally savvy, and creatively driven. Entrepreneurial spirit a must. Adobe Creative Cloud and MS Office proficient.
