The Solution Architect is a key member of the EMEA and UK IT teams and works closely with Business Analysts and other project teams to organize the system development effort. This role will have strategic responsibility in supporting and the delivery of innovative, effective, and sustainable solutions for the region. The Solution Architect owns the design and vision that underlies a solution and the execution of that vision into the solution. He/she is responsible to “harmonize, rationalize, and standardize” the application landscape for a relevant business process, having consolidation and support as top priorities for the process portfolio. The Solution Architect works closely with the application and Integration teams at the GIS level to ensure appropriate ELC standards and guidelines are met. The person will report into the Regional Director, EMEA IT Lead.


  • Create application designs, ensures solution architecture is effective and stable

  • Works closely with Business Analyst at the scope and requirements definition phase of a project to ensure solution is effectively and efficiently designed; educate Business Analyst regarding value of effective use of architecture

  • Is responsible for managing stabilization of portfolio for relevant business process and ensuring effective performance of overall application set

  • Translate the business strategy into the technical vision and strategy

  • Design process flows of solution features, ensure design includes effective information architecture, user interface, and user experience

  • Work with Business Analyst to perform data modeling, configuration, parameterization, use-case analysis, mock-ups, and prototypes based on requirements analysis; this also includes tradeoff analysis

  • Ensure solution design effectively integrates with other relevant application sets across business processes; work with SAI team to ensure realistic and effective integration plan in place to deploy solutions

  • Provide input to sourcing decisions (make/buy) in collaboration with business analyst

  • Ensure solution design meets compliance standards for ELC corporate policies, PCI, and other security and GIS Risk Management & Compliance guidelines

  • Understands customer and market trends; and provides information and advice on relevant emerging technology tools and platforms that may result in improvements to current processes

  • Collaborate and influence the CoE strategy and define the roadmap in conjunction with Strategy & Architecture

  • Work closely with GIS technical and support teams to manage overall operational stability of the applications and technology, driving continued focus on operational excellence and cost optimization

  • Identify and deliver technical innovations in support of emerging sales channel needs and progress these ideas from concepts to experiments to scaled models with focus on flexibility, reuse, and overarching extensibility

  • Stay abreast of current trends/technologies in consumer space and be aware of initiatives from other best in class and technology companies globally


Specific Experience Required:

  • Proven experience with retail technology and processes

  • Solid understanding of privacy and PCI regulations

  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, and communicate effectively in a fast-moving, rapidly growing environment

  • Strong team-player who has excellent collaboration and relationship skills

  • Solid understanding of IT group operating model, including enterprise architecture, development lifecycle, tools, methods and processes

Preferred Requirements:

  • Able to demonstrate an innovative approach to improving timeliness, quality, and efficiency of systems development projects/portfolios

  • Solid understanding of business unit operations and key processes where Retail is required

  • Experience designing onshore/offshore frameworks and managing offshore development and testing suppliers

  • Ability to operate in a matrix model

  • Demonstrates creative thinking beyond the boundaries of existing industry practices and client mindsets

  • Significant experience in systems architecture and solution design

  • Understanding of the latest technological advancements within relevant business processes

  • Skill in developing detailed technical documentation, studies and specifications

  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture, applications development, package implementation, and solutions management

  • Basic knowledge of SOA, middleware technologies, and enabling products

  • Basic knowledge of ITIL best practices within the Systems Development Lifecycle, Release Management,

  • Problem Management and other key processes

  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines; ability to make decisions with limited information

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Due to the globalization of business solutions the candidate must be able and willing to travel. This may include international travel.
