This role will support the Product Safety and Toxicology team in preparation and authoring of consumer product safety reports (CPSRs), manage large data projects, and perform ingredient safety assessments/write-ups for a wide range of cosmetic and non-cosmetic products, in support of New Brand Empowerment initiatives and ELC Ventures. An integral part of the job will be the collection of technical data necessary to facilitate ingredient safety assessment, document preparation for formula review, and participation in product safety formula review meetings. This candidate will report to the Director of Product Safety and Toxicology. Knowledge of alternative toxicology methods and data analytics for data interpretation will be important to job success.
Day to day work will involve close collaboration with a team of toxicologists, product safety, regulatory analysts, scientists, and other support groups, to ensure the safety of raw materials and finished products. Data review, report writing, opinion support and discussion will be frequent.
Other areas of focus and key strengths needed for short and longer term success are below:
Problem Solving – Expert technical strength in toxicology methods and principles. Ability to communicate effectively and obtain relevant information from internal colleagues and outside vendors to facilitate safety documentation requirements. Collaboratively align with the Regulatory department to finalize the Product Information File (PIF). Independently review and advise on safe ingredient usage levels, with additional formula review and advisement as needed. Longer term activities include participation in scientific task forces to address regulatory-based issues such as California Proposition 65, EU cosmetic opinions and other regulations in support of finished cosmetic products.
Decision Making – Provide recommendations on raw material safe use level and pre- and post-market product safety support for ELC global operations. Review and author safety dossier/safety report to support ELC product registration and Product information Files (PIF) globally. Prioritize and respond to multiple requests in a fast-paced environment.
Independence of Action and Accountability - Maintain professional excellence to respond with agility to address internal and external inquiries. Understand and follow SOP, best practices and work procedures required for toxicology and product safety activities.
Leadership - Provide leadership in scientific and regulatory defense of Estee Lauder Company's cosmetic ingredients and products, including consumer inquiries. Actively mentor and/or coach junior staff.
Masters degree, Ph.D. in Toxicology or related field preferred
6 years of experience
DABT, ERT is a plus
Degree in Toxicology or related fields, and a minimum of 6 years of experience working as a toxicologist in a cosmetics or personal care product field. Certification/s in Toxicology is a plus. Expertise in risk assessment methodologies for raw material and formula, alternative methods for Q/SAR analysis, and other in silico approaches. Strong technical background in scientific data evaluation and ability to collaborate across departments, communicate effectively and lead in scientific discussions. Candidate must be computer proficient.
