The R&D Project Manager would lead the integration of all R&D work to complete the project on time, per defined scope, to meet the business needs. In order to do this work the R&D Project Manager would lead a team of R&D resources representing the various R&D work needed to complete that project. Communications is a key part of this person’s role as they work with all levels of the organization and across many functions of the company. The three key areas of responsibility for this role are the following: Schedule, Risk, and Scope management.

  • Develop and Manage Logic Based Critical Path Schedules – leveraging the R&D schedule templates as a guide. Drive completion of activities on time – keep the team informed of results vs plan. Use scheduling tool to model scenarios to help drive timing decisions.

  • Manage Risks – define and determine, with the team, how to deal with risks, escalade those needed to hierarchy where their involvement is needed.

  • Communication – ensure effective communication happens within the team and to key stakeholders

  • Stakeholder Management – ensure all stakeholder input is received and integrated into the project planning. Ensure the appropriate level of communication is made with those stakeholders

  • Scope Management –Define project and product scope and share appropriately. Leverage change management systems to deal with any proposed changes to scope

  • Cost Management – Understand cost needs for the project and ensure work is completed to meet those needs. (margins, cost reductions etc)

  • Help develop and own parts of the PMO System and its processes.

  • Run reports and analyses where needed using appropriate tools as requested by management.

  • Work with End to End Project Manager to ensure R&D timings and input are integrated into the multi-functional schedule and stage gate reviews.

  • Help align and drive prioritization. Raise priority concerns so that the right business decisions are made.

Requirements for R&D PM Role:

  1. Knowledge of the R&D business – end to end

  2. Leadership – ability to work issues at all levels of the organization

  3. Knows how to work with people at all levels of the organization

  4. MS Project user – but can be trained

  5. PMP Certification – nice to have – not required

  6. External candidates – would need 10 years of experience in R&D Beauty and experience with project management. Engineering degree preferred.

  • Clear, concise communicator

  • Ability to think critically, capture insights and draw conclusions

  • Microsoft Excel, Sharepoint/One Drive proficiency, Microsoft Project

  • Analytical – can pull and analyze data and make good business recommendations
