Principal Scientist, Skincare

Responsible for the development of new products or modifications of existing ones. Is assigned many projects of different degrees of complexity. Ensures the timely completion of product development activities. May direct the activities of junior scientists and technicians. Performs special projects as assigned.


  • Actively develops commercially feasible new products or modifies existing ones. Works independently. Projects are usually complex. May handle projects where little prior art exists.

  • May lead a cross functional team in the development of a special project.

  • Suggests new ideas for innovative, efficacious products.

  • Develops own approach for the delivery of the project.

  • Determines stability of formulations and ensures commercial feasibility.

  • Follows projects from prototype development through manufacturing. Contributes in establishing manufacturing procedures.

  • Assures that all testing to guarantee a marketable final product is on schedule.

  • Establishes standards and submits batch cards to lab management for review.

  • Keeps laboratory management informed of project progress. Makes project direction recommendations.

  • Trains and coaches technicians, temporary help and entry level chemists in laboratory procedures and technical aspects of development. Checks their work.

  • Resolves complex product or process problems.

  • Stays abreast of developments in the cosmetic field and continues to demonstrate performance improvement. Reviews and prepares analysis of emerging cosmetic technology.

  • Extensive contacts with ail R&D departments, QA, Technical Services, Manufacturing and NY Products Department.



  • B.S. degree in relevant scientific field

  • 7 years technical experience in the cosmetic industry with 2 or more years of supervisory experience. Proficient at all aspects of category (Make-up/Treatment) technology.
