Production Supervisor, M&R - 2nd Shift

To optimize the performance of production equipment through the execution and implementation of preventive maintenance programs, continual improvement of change-over and start-up efficiencies. To develop and implement long term strategies and solutions aimed at resolving technical productivity problems, while providing a high level of service and support to the department’s internal customers.


  • Establish current parts inventory and maintain inventory control by using the TOOL CRIB COORDINATOR software program.

  • Identify broken and worn parts. Use the PURCHASE ORDER REQUEST system to order necessary replacement and renewal items and WORK ORDER REQUEST system to schedule with the machine shop to repair items.

  • Identify multiple occurrences of broken items and work with the production engineering team to identify root cause and corrective actions to eliminate future reoccurrence.

  • Coordinate to kit jobs that are queued firm and meet production priorities.

  • Use set up – changeover sheets to verify correct parts are supplied. Verify with mechanics that the correct parts are listed on the sheets and update as necessary.

  • Insure the tool crib and washroom areas are a continuous, three-shift operation with the appropriate management of the attendants that report directly to the position.

  • Assist in the PM activities by coordinating the purchase of the correct spare parts and monitoring/training the staff in the proper PM procedures.

  • Respond to “calls” for technical assistance from line teams to minimize downtime and insure implementation of long term problem resolution.

  • Participate in and initiate corrective actions to insure technical aspects of proposed resolution be implemented as required.

  • Participate on new equipment and new product launch teams to provide feasibility information and assist in developing specifications and acceptance protocol.

  • Communicate the company’s rules on safety, dress code and housekeeping at all times. Work to eliminate any potential safety hazards on equipment in use.

  • Ability to fully understand and proficiently perform all of the above functions.


  • Initiate, plan, implement and follow through relevant projects.


  • Train/orient new employees when necessary.


  • Act as “lead” and/or “go to” person for the group.



  • Denotes grade 24 responsibilities)


  • Engineering degree or equivalent mechanical experience

  • Five years of manufacturing experience

  • Must be familiar with Packaging Equipment

  • May be required to handle containers of hazardous waste

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills

  • Broad engineering background in a Production filling and packaging environment.

  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical trouble shooting methods

  • Detailed knowledge of machine setting specific to machines on the Production Floor.

  • Knowledge of how to use machine tools and hand tools safely and correctly

  • Understanding of the principles of electronics and pneumatics

  • Understanding of PLC’s and PLC programming

  • Knowledge of safety responsibilities (legal and company procedures)

  • Knowledge of R&D specified Filling Specification and Assembly instructions.

  • Knowledge of company's production systems and QA standards

  • Knowledge of maintenance software systems (MP2, Tool Crib Database, I-Buttons)

  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize activities with Production Management team

  • Communication skills - need to be tactful under stress - ability to communicate mechanical concepts to non-specialist personnel

  • Advanced mechanical skills i.e. ability to analyze causes of mechanical breakdown and arrive at a solution

  • Computer skills - ability to set up and adjust electronically controlled machinery and equipment

  • Basic numeric ability – the ability to work in metric and American standard.
