The candidate's primary role is to support the PS&T functions which includes conducting safety and toxicological data review of raw material in support of R&D and Innovation teams, and formula/product safety assessment to ensure compliance with global regulations, ELC SOPs and industry best practices. The candidate will provide safety assessment and safety dossier to support clinical studies, regulatory and quality assurance inquiries. The candidate should have a strong understanding and practical experience in Toxicology 21st Century approaches for risk assessment of cosmetic ingredients and products.
This job requires close collaboration with a team of raw material administration staff, product safety, regulatory, analytical, formulation scientists, and other support groups and work to ensure the safety of raw materials and finished products. Data review, report writing, opinion support and discussion will be frequent. Areas of focus and key strengths needed for short and longer term success are listed below:
Problem Solving – Maintain curiosity to understand R&D business and toxicology safety assessment needs. Mastery in technical strength in toxicology methods and safety assessment principles and their application to support R&D. Communicate effectively and obtain relevant information from internal colleagues and third party/outside vendors to facilitate safety documentation requirements. Collaboratively align with the Regulatory department to finalize the Product Information File (PIF).
Decision Making – Independently review and advise on safe ingredient usage levels, with additional formula review and advisement as needed. Provide recommendations on raw material safe use level and pre- and post-market product safety support for ELC global operations. Prepare and draft safety dossier/safety report to support ELC product registration and Product information Files (PIF) globally. Prioritize and respond to multiple requests in a fast-paced environment.
Independence of Action and Accountability - Maintain professional excellence to respond with agility to address internal and external inquiries. Understand and follow SOP, best practices and work procedures required for toxicology and product safety activities.
Leadership - Develop and provide leadership in scientific and regulatory defense of Estee Lauder Company's cosmetic ingredients and products. Longer term activities include participate in internal and external cross functional scientific and technical communities, task forces and trade associations representations.
Bachelors, Masters Degree or PH.D in Toxicology or related health and science field preferred.

-DABT, ERT, Safety Assessor is a plus
Degree in Toxicology or related health and science fields, and 6 experience working as a toxicologist in a cosmetics or personal care product field. Expertise in 21st Century Toxicology, risk assessment methodologies for raw material and formula, and other in silico approaches. Strong technical background in scientific and toxicological data evaluation and ability to collaborate across departments, communicate effectively and lead in scientific review and discussions. The compensation and technical title will commensurate working experience and academic background.
