Director, Global Product Development - Skincare & Makeup, Origins
Work in the research, initiation, evaluation, development and follow-through of new global skincare, color and bath / body product launches. Remain knowledgeable of new global competitive introductions/industry technologies and determine how they can apply to the Origins brand philosophy to drive sales, growth, awareness and competitive leadership. Maintain the quality of the existing Origins product line and generate changes as needed in conjunction with Marketing. Drives the creative development process from concept through launch, including concept development, research, presentation and execution, claims, demos etc. of both calendar and “off-calendar” projects. Partners with global marketing, regions, supports retailer requests and consumer engagement team to develop relevant insights, claims, benefit messaging and demos to support each discipline’s needs and to build hero products, categories and franchises.
Manage all steps involved with new product launches under the direction of the Origins Brand Strategy. This includes conceptualizing new product ideas (inclusive of packaging innovation) picking prototypes, evaluate submissions, give direction to chemists, oversee in-house panel testing, establish formula standards, and track projects on a day to day basis staying within allotted timelines.
Understand and communicate skin care technologies and leveraging R D and TPM innovations.
Partners with outside vendors to leverage their innovation quickly within Origins restrictions and aligned to the brand’s strategic objectives.
Keep abreast of all new, global competitive product launches and trends. Responds quickly and makes appropriate recommendations for new launches, CDV’s and new communication on existing assets. Keeps abreast of color trends and formula innovations.
Develops color line rationalizations with Global Marketing team.
Takes a leadership role in new product brainstorming sessions R&D. Develop new concepts and present ideas to global marketing team. Plays an active role in identifying and leading longer term innovation.
Represent the Product Development Department at pertinent internal meetings.
Gives presentations at RRT meetings, sales meetings, PR events, retailer presentations
Lead weekly status meetings with R&D. Actively participates in PPD meetings Includes ensuring that all departments are updated on pertinent information necessary to direct the development of projects in a timely fashion. Has a strong understanding and can direct actions to support the NPL requirements.
Evaluates and approves existing product line maintenance and reformulations.
Write Product Development Fact Sheets
Leads PD intern projects.
8-10 years related experience
Bachelors’ Degree or Equivalent
Position requires experience in product development in color and skin care.
Superior product evaluation skills.
Must possess strong creative skills, be a strong contributor to "idea generation" of new products and have a persuasive communication style.
Must possess clear and concise business writing skills. Be able to convey ideas in a concise and clear way.
Must be able to direct and lead the complete product development cycle with all involved disciplines.
Working knowledge of key computer programs is required.
Must be able to demonstrate strong communication skills with R&D personnel, as well as all levels of management of Marketing, Sales, and Education, Packaging, Creative, P.R. and Copy teams.
Must demonstrate strong problem-solving capabilities. Must be able to anticipate and mitigate risks/issues
Strong interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of management.
Strong organization and planning / time management skills.
