Director, Materials Designer Packaging

This position will bridge the connection between package designers and material scientists.
‘Concierge’ service to connect upfront with brands in their package design process providing the material selection that conveys the latest fashion elements, trends, luxury cues, branding, visual, sensorial, etc elements to package design across all categories.
Lead identification, development and application of the materials that projects the creative vision, maintaining hands-on involvement in Materials design in support of creative direction and late stage differentiation and fast-fashion trends, working closely with the packaging development and packaging material science team for material selection
Elevate the packaging experience with a focus on both the art & science of materials that drive luxury cues and fashion statement coupled with decoration technologies, ensuring manufacturability
Creates material mood boards / platforms on new, innovative material designs, working closely with creative, sustainability and material science team.
Works well to tight calendars and deadlines
Builds awareness of current material trends, through fashion, art, design, consumer goods packaging and related products through market research and trade show visits to keep abreast of consumer needs
Clear, concise, and thoughtful delivery (verbal, written, visual, listening).
Crafts specialized material presentations and palettes for collaboration meetings inspired by luxury and fashion elements.
Maintains healthy cross-functional relationships and builds matrix relationships outside of immediate team including material suppliers and designers
Continuously advances product, process, and design skills reflective of an expert design professional.
Provides mentorship for junior material designers as needed outside of assigned product load.
Education, Direct, Management Experience and Technical Skill:
BS or MS in Materials Design (or a related field)
Minimum of 7 years relevant work experience. (Exception for master’s degree 5 years)
Bachelor’s degree in materials design, fashion design (with materials application experience) or a related field
Demonstrated knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and CAD programs
Strong presentation skills
Ability to meet deadlines
Clear and concise communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to travel as needed
BS or MS in Materials Design or related field
7 years of experience (5 if with Masters Degree)
Material texture selection, translating creative vision to tangible materials, etc.
