The Estée Lauder Companies Corporate Archives promotes and preserves the corporate culture and the unique heritage of the company and its brands. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Archives, the Digital Archives Manager is responsible for developing standards-based appraisal, processing, and cataloging methods for the Corporate Archives’ extensive holdings of digital assets and for providing access to digital assets within the organization. The Digital Archives Manager acquires, processes, and preserves born-digital material and develops protocol for the digitization of analog material, including audiovisual material, sound recordings, and printed matter. With the Corporate Archives team, the Digital Archives Manager develops systems and procedures for processing hybrid collections and assists in the implementation and maintenance of collection management, digital asset management, and preservation systems.

  • Responsible for technical appraisal, capture/transfer, accessioning, description, storage and long-term preservation of digital assets

  • Establishes best practices for the digital conversion of audiovisual material, sound recordings, photographs, printed matter, and textual documents

  • Collaborates with other archivists to determine best practices for arrangement and description of hybrid and born-digital collections; and works to establish procedures for requesting material and provision of access

  • Liaises with staff members across the organization to identify, appraise, and acquire digital and audiovisual material for the Corporate Archives

  • Works diligently along with other archivists to fulfill research requests on a timely basis

  • Incorporates digital media into reference visits, presentations, and exhibits as opportunities arise

  • Assists in the maintenance of the Corporate Archives’ collection management, digital asset management, and preservation systems

  • With the Corporate Archives Director and Global Information Services develops and implements a digital preservation system

  • Documents newly developed policies and procedures

  • Supervises and trains permanent and contingent staff and interns as opportunities arise

  • Participates in biweekly status meetings to establish new ideas that benefit the department

  • Leads or assist the Director with special projects for Corporate Archives department

  • Continues to develop talents by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and joining professional organizations

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree

  • 5 years minimum experience

  • Formal training in archival theory and practice

  • Experience processing and cataloging digital collections in a variety of formats, including images, text, audiovisual, and sound

  • Thorough knowledge of archives and object collection cataloging, digital asset management, and digital preservation systems

  • Familiarity with EAD, MODS, METS, XML, PREMIS and other data structure standards relevant to archival control of digital collections. Familiarity with Dublin Core, DACS, RDA, and LC cataloging and metadata standards.

  • Web archiving experience a plus

  • Interest in and knowledge of American fashion history and the contemporary beauty industry

  • 5 years’ experience in a fast-paced corporate environment or cultural institution

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to think creatively, and work both independently and collaboratively in a production-oriented, collegial environment,

  • Strong project management skills

  • Proficiency PC and MAC platforms, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, scanning applications, databases, and cataloging systems

  • Ability to perform physical work such as climbing step ladders and lifting 40lb boxes

  • Work is performed in an area that may contain allergens or irritants such as dust and perfume
