The VP, Corporate Affairs, EMEA will be responsible for driving the global communications strategy across the EMEA region to advance, elevate and protect ELC and its prestige beauty brands through outstanding strategic communications. This individual will be a member of the Global Corporate Affairs leadership team and will develop and lead a locally relevant EMEA communications strategy for Enterprise Branding, Issues Management/Risk Mitigation, Internal Communications and External Communications, and accelerate regional integration and collaboration on priority corporate strategies, initiatives and messages across the regions including with Global Public Affairs, Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability and other parts of the business.
Working closely with the VP, Global Corporate Affairs, and the President of the EMEA Region, this role will:
Lead the Regional development and implementation of the ELC Enterprise Brand initiatives and activations in partnership with key regional and global functions:
Provide strategic contributions to strong corporate reputation narrative, initiatives, positioning and communications strategy to leverage and get credit for what we do well, while developing strategies to address areas of risk
Strengthen and lead the regional narrative and develop communications tools and strategies to reach key stakeholders in the region to advance business and reputation
Lead and convene the enterprise brand working group – with key stakeholders including Regional President / HR Leads / others as needed Lead regional internal (i.e. myELC intranet, Leading Beauty Forward, Employee Resource Group events) and external communications (media relations) and corporate digital communications across 16 markets as well as lead the development of tools that help enhance, modernize and advance communications in the region.
Develop relationships with key media and other important stakeholders including potential partners, influencers and NGO leaders.
Lead culture communications (including messaging and special projects) that enhance, amplify and enforce the global and region and (market) specific culture. Working closely with HR and Region President, develop timely communications strategy that is digital first.
Lead the Onboarding of new Comms agency on retainer. Manage agency for ongoing quality and corporate voice Strengthen and amplify ELCs proactive, issues management and risk mitigation approach in the region in alignment with global corporate affairs strategy:
Lead crisis communications for the region - Be part of the core working group for Issues and Crisis Management for the region, in coordination with the Global Issues and Crisis working groups
Lead the development of a risk mitigation and issues management strategy in alignment with global strategy to protect ELC and its Brands from reputational risk. This includes the creation of local and regional issues and crisis leadership teams, trainings and day to day issues management and counsel.
Lead and convene Issues Working Group on an as-needed basis depending on issue at hand
Advise Brands in region; mitigation of potential risks; and provide daily guidance on issues
Support the Global Public Affairs program and the execution of EMEA Regional Public Affairs initiatives , with a focus on local stakeholder communications strategy; represent ELC in key industry groups such as trade groups and other industry associations
Provide guidance and expertise in the legislative and regulatory space that impacts ELC.
Align with Global, define EMEA’s position and articulate it externally; help bring ELC EMEA’s priorities to the fore-front with local decision-makers and other influential policy makers
In conjunction with Global Public Affairs, lead the messaging and internal tool development for the new Regional General Manager Program. The GM Program is intended to r emove barriers to ELC’s ability to operate, grow and expand in new markets; and expand relationships with stakeholders to ensure our perspective is understood
Accelerate regional integration and collaboration on priority corporate strategies, initiatives and messages across the regions including with Global Public Affairs, Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability and brands, regions and functions. Including:
- Lead Strategy and ownership of Regional Strategy for the ELC Breast Cancer Campaign aligned with Global vision
Bachelor’s degree in any business or communications related subject
15 years relevant professional experience in the Communications function, preferably with 5 years working in-house for matrix-organized multinational corporations
Experience with translatable skills to the consumer products industry
Experience in internal and external communications across a multi-language region
Deep understanding of media relations and the proven ability to quickly establish a media network
Strong Public Affairs experience, including experience in government or policy groups and a good understanding of the non-government organizations environment and how they function
Proven experience generating content around social/digital communications
Experience in crisis communications
Personal gravitas and poise in articulating sensitive messages to senior individuals and groups, both face-to-face and in writing
Experience leading 3rd party and virtual teams
Creative thinker, with proven ability to generate new ideas and identify solid design concepts
Strong executive presence and experience guiding senior executives at Regional/global level in Communications issues
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English language, with any European language skills an advantage
Strategic, independent, self-starter and a team player attitude
Strong organizational, project management and problem solving skills
Works effectively in complex situations and make solid decisions in time-bound challenging moments; works effectively on cross-functional teams and projects
Ability to work in a fast paced environment
